African Morning is a most interesting account of facets of life at the Nigeria College of Arts, Science and Technology (NCAT) and its successor, the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), in the first few years of their existence. The book also records what life was like in the years 1949 - 1952 in the Republic of the Sudan, Africa’s largest country, where the author served as a Librarian. The book was written with wit and humour, the text is precise and scholarly. As Hedwig Anuar wrote of an earlier book, Mr Plumbe, “has an artist’s eye and poet’s words. His anecdote reveals the love of mankind that enabled him to make friends everywhere he went.” This new book manifests a total commitment to the Sudan and Nigeria where he worked for about fifteen years during the period, 1949 - 1983.
